Created in 1975 by Milena Salvini and Roger Filipuzzi, multicultural and versatile, the Mandapa Center (Association 1901) offers a wide panorama of world shows (music, dances, tales), in their traditional forms and open to contemporary creation. Its Patronage Committee brings together, among others, the names of: Jean-Louis Barrault, Peter Brook, Carolyn Carlson, Yehudi Menuhin, Karleinz Stockhausen, Nicolas Schöffer, Prof. Tran Van Khé ...

Since 1978, in addition to its regular annual program of 200 World Shows (including more than 50 concerts), the Mandapa Center has punctuated its history with major cultural events dedicated to India: the first coming to Europe of traditional shows and international tours, in particular: the theater-dance KATHAKALI, the martial art KALARIPPAYAT, the Sanskrit theater KUTIYATTAM , and by organizing for the first time in 1985 an extraordinary musical cycle: the 24 Hours of Raga at the National Odeon Theater, followed by “ Great epic nights ” at the Théâtre du Soleil / Cartoucherie: by Kathakali and 24 Hours of Non-stop Music in 2000 in celebration of the New Millennium. Other similar events followed until recent years. In 2019, Milena Salvini received the Padma Shrî distinction from the Indian Government.

From 1980 to 2005, its annual festival SOLOS SANS FRONTIERES welcomed on the small stage of the Mandapa a multitude of dancers and choreographers in creations drawing on the ethnic sources of the movement.

Since 1985, its annual cycle Le Tour du Conte en 80 Mondes, known as the CONTES D'HIVER , offers a program of tales and legends from all cultures, extended to shows intended for young audiences, entertaining and educational in all welcoming techniques. every year thousands of children from schools, colleges, recreation centers.

The Mandapa is the only place in the Paris region offering oral traditions an opening of this importance.

The Indian dance school of Mandapa has acquired over the years a solid reputation for its rigor and respect for traditions. Professional dancers were trained there.

Among his discographic achievements of Indian music, the Mandapa has collaborated with Arion, Auvidis and Ocora .

His production of " 24 Chants du Gita Govinda " (Auvidis) won the Grand Prix du Disque in 1992. In 1994, the CID-UNESCO Prize was awarded, for their film on KUTIYATTAM , to its founders whose work contributed that the Kutiyattam be classified by UNESCO as an “ Intangible World Heritage ” in 2001.

Since 2018, the Mandapa 2.0 presents the festival "PASSPORT FOR ..." , with a program focused particularly on a country: Passport for Vietnam (2018-2019), Passport for India (2019-2020) and others to come up...
